EXPO 2006 Wrap Up

The 2nd Annual Inspiration Wellness Expo, East Meets West: Changes, Challenges and Growth, was a huge success! Credit goes to the energetic and talented group of health and wellness professionals who shared their services, products and knowledge of healthy living through hands on experience. Hundreds of visitors took their time at each booth, explored, ask questions and learned something new about themselves.

We could not have had this power-packed weekend without the help of Inspiration's staff and volunteers. Each one put in countless hours of forethought, brow sweating, heart and soul to bring this magical event to Kaua'i for all to enjoy. I'd like to acknowledge Sally Wilson, editor; David Nakashita, designer; Richard Diamond, sales; Janice Hensley, promotions; Pam Salibi and Tammi Andersland, assistant editors and Paul Reynolds, yoga editor. Without you, there is no Inspiration.

A special Mahalo and Aloha to Barbara De Angelis for being our keynote speaker and helping to create a very successful event. The Expo attracted over a dozen presenters from the mainland and outer islands, including Robert Young, PhD and Guru Yogi Ramesh. Mahalo to all of the presenters for sharing your knowledge and heartfelt message to combine Eastern and Western wellness principles for a healthier lifestyle.
To the sponsors who embraced our wellness vision and helped kick off this event, Mahalo for believing in the future of Kaua'i's health and wellness industry and investing in the health of the people of Kaua'i. These include the Kaua'i Office of Economic Development, Hawaii Tourism Authority, Kaua'i Health and Wellness Association, Princeville at Hanalei, Hawaii Health, Kahuna Valley, Alexander Day Spa and Salon, Sign and Print and Cindie K. The Wellness Expo is a great place to jump start your New Year's resolutions for having a healthy in mind, body and spirit in 2006. This is an opportunity to learn from over 20 different motivational speakers and mini workshops addressing a variety of topics including personal, financial, and spiritual health. Including dynamic presentations from Special Guests speakers Dr. Robert Young, author of The pH Miracle and the ph Miracle for Diabetes and Guru Yogi Ramesh on Laughing Yoga Therapy. There will also be exercise workshops such as Qigong, Roller Ball and Bikram Yoga. Over 60 exhibit booths are featured with a chance to experience massage, Reiki, Osteopathy, Chiropractic, aromatherapy, feng shui and other healing techniques. Healthy foods and unique products such as gems and jewelry and nutritional information will be available to Kaua'i's residents and visitors. There will be healthy and creative activities for kids, too.

The Wellness Expo is the brainchild of Char Ravelo, publisher of Inspiration, Hawaii's Wellness Journal. "Four years ago, I envisioned a holistic journal filled with articles pertinent to daily life, written by Kaua'i's professional health practitioners and healers. Words that educate, motivate, and provoke us to look at ourselves, families, friends, our community, thus guide us towards having healthier and balanced lives. Expo 2005 was a success with over 60 exhibitors, 20 speakers and 500 plus visitors. Now it's time to bring the Health and Wellness community together again for another two days of networking, learning and sharing. Why not start the new year off right with an event that would be fun and energizing for the whole island! It has been a deep desire, of mine, to provide an avenue for positive learning and synergy in group settings, a place where leaders in the health and wellness industry have an opportunity to meet and work towards our common goal of building a stronger community on Kaua'i."

In 2004, the Hawaii state legislature officially designated Health and Wellness Tourism as a niche market. The LOHAS (Lifestyles Of Health And Sustainability) market is a rapidly growing $227 billion industry and expos are a high touch form of marketing. People meet the practitioners and healers one on one, which is something you can't do with print, TV or radio advertising. This is especially important if you have a service related business (massage therapist) or have a product that can be demonstrated or sampled. Expos are about connecting with people and the importance of building a strong health and wellness community from the ground up.

In response to the need for promotional support and economic stability in the health and wellness industry, a newly formed non-profit organization the Kaua'i Health and Wellness Association (KHWA) provides a unified voice for its members. The Kick-Off Party for this association is on Sunday, Jan 29th at the Expo. It is open to everyone interested in the health and wellness of Kaua'i. Come for pupus and networking. For more information call Pamela at 639-6236 or visit

Kaua'i is one of the most beautiful islands in the world. People feel good when they come here. It is a natural place for people to relax and heal. The Kaua'i Wellness Expo is a great place for the Kaua'i community to come meet each other, and together to celebrate Health.

Admission is $3 per day or $5 for both days, children under 12 and seniors are free.

Enter to win a SPA Day and 2 Rounds of Golf at the Makai Golf Course from Princeville at Hanalei.

Ticket prices to Barbara's seminar are $39 advance and $49 at the door, island wide locations TBA.
